EDINBURGH CAPITALS today announced the signing of free-scoring American forward Ryan Hayes.
Hayes joins the club from Utah Grizzlies of the East Coast Hockey League, where he was a team-mate of recent Edinburgh signing Jacob Johnston. Last year, in a season split between Utah and Stockton Thunder, also of the ECHL, he scored 38 goals combined with 31 assists.
Capitals player/coach Riley Emmerson describes Hayes, who played for his country at U-17 and U-18 level, as “an exciting player” brought in to replace the goals of last season’s top scorer Rene Jarolin, who left the club to join English Premier League outfit Milton Keynes Lightning. Emmerson said: “I am extremely happy to add Ryan to our roster. He is a big-time player, who has a fantastic touch around the net. I have spoken to past coaches and team-mates about him and they have nothing but great things to say. A priority for me was replacing the goals from Rene Jarolin last year. And plainly Ryan Hayes does that.”
Hayes said: “When Edinburgh made their offer to me, the club was very clear in its understanding of how I fitted into the team. Coach Emmerson had done his research on how to get the best from me. My agents and I were impressed with the plan for the club.”
