Edinburgh CAPITALS’ Slovakian forward and team captain Martin Cingel has signed a new deal which will see him return for an 11th season with the ice hockey club.

The fans’ favourite, who has played more than 400 games in a Capitals shirt, becomes the eighth player re-signed by
player-coach Richard Hartmann as the team begins to take shape ahead of their new Elite League campaign which begins in September.

Cingel is delighted with his new deal and believes that having so many players returning from last year’s squad, which finished sixth in the league and made a first play-off appearance in three seasons, can only be a good thing for the club.

He said: “It’s a fantastic feeling; as I’ve said many times, Edinburgh is my home town, I’m a resident here, and it’s great to be playing with the team again next season.

“In the past we’ve always struggled with one thing, every year we brought in new imports and we started every season from scratch. This year we’ve already made some excellent signings, such as Tomas Hiadlovsky (goalie), Curtis Leinweber and Peter Holecko (forwards). With these guys, as well as our British players, we already know how we’re going to play and will not have to get used to one another.”
