Commonwealth Games hopeful Alan Clyne is due to make a rare competitive appearance on home courts today when contesting the $10,000 (£6000) Edinburgh Open Squash Championship at the Sports Club, Belford Road.
Clyne begins his bid against Julian Nightingale and if successful could face home professional Simon Boughton at 8pm tonight.
World No. 10 Daryl Selby tops the men’s seedings while the women’s event could feature Senga Macfie and Claire Gadsby carrying home hopes after they came through initial qualifying last night.
Selby opens against Colinton Castle’s Chris Gray, one of a string of home contenders.
These include Scotland caps Allan Tasker, Kevin Moran, Gregg Lobban, Stuart Crawford and Dougie Kempsell who plays top Scots junior Craig Valente-Wallace.
Last night’s qualifying results include: Men: Gray bt Ross McHoul 3-0; Valente-Wallace bt Zahan Dastur 3-2; Boughton bt Michael Ross 3-1; Tasker bt David Beaumont 3-0; Jacques Laas bt Jamie Mackay 3-0.
