EDINBURGH will host a major Australian Rules Football event later this year.
The European Championship will be held at Peffermill on Saturday, September 22, and around 30 teams have been invited.
Five pitches will be used for the event scheduled from 9am to 8pm and it is the first time that Scotland has hosted the competition.
Douglas Hunter, president of the Scottish Australian Rules Football League, said: “We bid for the event and it was accepted. Denmark and France were also in for it but Peffermill is a good venue. The event will involve between 18 and 24 countries. We’re delighted to have been given the nod and the work to organise it is well underway.”
