Edinburgh badminton ace Christine Black has set her sights on the Scottish veterans championships and annual age-group international match with England around the New Year after success in the World Championships in Ankara, Turkey.
Christine won the mixed with fellow Scot Dan Travers, and partnered Holland’s Marjan Ridder to a silver in the ladies doubles as well as reaching the final of the singles where she lost to Germany’s Heidi Ridder.
Mrs Black said: “At the moment, I am in recovery after a tiring week and couldn’t have undertaken so many matches if I hadn’t done some specific training beforehand. After a slow start to the competitions with one match in the first two days, I found myself playing three matches on three successive days.”
Christine, who is married to former Olympic hammer thrower Chris Black, is due to manage Scotland’s badminton team at next year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
“Since the world vets are held every two years, hopefully there will be an opportunity to defend the mixed title but the focus from now on will be largely Commonwwealth Games duties,” she added.
