Capital canoeist David Florence completed a weekend to forget by finishing only eighth in yesterday’s C2 doubles final at the slalom World Cup in Liptovsky Mikulas, Slovakia.
The 32-year-old and Londoner Rich Hounslow scraped through yesterday’s semis in ninth place, and although they improved slightly in the final, they were unable to take a spot on the podium.
Florence was even more frustrated by his 17th place finish in Saturday’s C1 singles, which relegated him from first to fifth in the season-long World Cup standings. Matej Benus and Benjamin Savsek also failed to reach the final, leaving Stanislav Jezek with an 18-point lead ahead of the next race at La Seu d’Urgell near Barcelona next month.
Roslin youngster Brad Forbes-Cryans missed out on the K1 kayak semi-finals by just 0.08secs.
