Struggling Edinburgh Capitals have announced the signing of American defenseman Loren Barron.
The 6’1” Californian, is expected to arrive in the country in time to make his debut when Edinburgh travel to Dundee Stars next Saturday.
Barron had a successful college career with Quinnipac University Bobcats, before making his professional debut last season with Evansville Icemen of North America’s East Coast Hockey League, where he registered three goals and 15 assists in 65 games.
Capitals’ co-owner Scott Neil is hopeful Barron will “kick-start” their season and lift the Murrayfield men from the bottom of the Elite League, revealing Edinburgh enforcer, Riley Emmerson, had a big part to play in bringing the 25-year old to the city.
Neil said: “We’re bringing him in to help kick-start our season, and try to get the team into a more competitive position. He was recommended to us by Riley Emmerson who met him at an AHL training camp and spoke very highly of him.”
Barron brings the number of imports at the club to 13, one over the limit allowed to ice in any one game. However, Neil added: “We’re viewing Loren as an addition to the squad rather than a replacement.”
