They face Troon Team Ayrshire on Sunday in the John Syer Trophy final in Linlithgow, but will be without outside hitters Monika Krysinska and Sophie Hunter due to shoulder and thumb injuries. Mel Coutts is also sidelined by a serious knee injury.

City of Edinburgh also have to contend with a league match 24 hours beforehand against Aberdonia. Team GB setter Jo Morgan will miss that match, although she is expected to be fit for the final.

Team captain Jen Thom admits she will have to reshuffle her pack.

“The importance in having a full squad of players at the start of the season and being able to make positional adjustments can help you at times like this,” she said.

Troon have a remarkable record of having been in the John Syer Trophy final every year it has been contested, but they start as underdogs against a City side out for another clean sweep of honours.
