Capital canoeist David Florence was “delighted” to complete a clean sweep of six victories at the British slalom trials at Lee Valley yesterday.
The former Roseburn pupil had already won all three C1 singles races and the first two C2 doubles races by the time he and Rich Hounslow lined up in race three.
Saturday’s margin of victory was five seconds, but they were pushed much harder yesterday, clocking 98.91secs to finish just 1.64secs ahead of Greg Pitt and Adam Burgess with Olympic champion Etienne Stott and his new partner Mark Proctor back in fourth. “I’m delighted,” said Florence. “Getting the clean sweep was as much as I could possibly have expected.”
The 2013 world champion can now focus his attention on this summer’s World and European Championships.
