James Urquhart and his crew of Code Z, helmed by Andy Marshall, managed three wins from five races to take the honours when Port Edgar again hosted the Edinburgh 707 Yachting Cup.
In ideal sailing conditions with a steady 15 to 20 knots easterly wind, this third annual instalment of the race was moved up the Forth to avoid the easterly swell.
Twelve Hunter 707s competed fiercely and only one point separated first and second with last year’s winner, Cacciatore, helmed by John Robertson, being edged out.
Three points further back, Seaword secured good results in the last two races and third place overall, despite dumping the helmsman in the water in the first race.
Fourth and fifth went to Jetstream and Dave Northridge, and Neil Maclure of the Royal Forth Yacht Club with Blue Funk.
Our photograph shows Mike Miller (Port Edgar YC), Andy Hughes, Ant Cooper (both Hartlepool YC), Dara O’Malley (Seaword owner, Royal Forth YC) and Garry O’Connor (Port Edgar YC).
Andy and Ant will be bringing their own boat, Sharky to the UK Nationals to be held at the Royal Forth YC, Granton, next month.
In the same event Mike and Dara will be sailing Seaword with Tich Summers, Nick Elder and Dave Simpson, all local sailors and last year’s Scottish National winners.
