City of Edinburgh’s Mel Coutts is hoping Scotland’s women’s volleyball team get off to a flier tonightas they seek to make history at the European Championships Small Countries Division finals in Liechtenstein.
The Scots, who came through their qualifying group in Perth last June, face the Faroe Islands in their opener as they seek to win the title.
Coutts missed the qualifying group due to a knee injury but makes her Scotland return against the Faroes after winning 57 caps for England.
“The team is in good fettle and raring to go,” she outlined, “I guess Cyprus are favourites on paper but we are focusing on ourselves and on our performance in our first match against Faroe Islands. It will all be a good challenge.”
Coutts is still troubled by knee problems and it forced her and partner Lynne Beattie to concede the match against Ukraine in the CEV Continental Beach Cup in Austria earlier this month.
Fortunately, Scotland had already qualified for the fourth round in August with a win over Bulgaria.
