Murrayfield curler Bruce Mouat showed his battling qualities at the Gatineau Challenge in Canada as he bounced back from an opening defeat to win his second match in Quebec.

The world junior bronze medallist was in trouble from the start as he lost 7-3 to Canadian skip Adam Casey, and the alarm bells were ringing when he trailed Ontario’s Greg Balsdon 3-0 after the first end. But Mouat dug in and counted three stones at the third, fourth and sixth ends to complete an excellent 9-4 win. He meets Dane Rasmus Stjerne next.
