Edinburgh curlers Gina Aitken and Bruce Mouat both came off second-best to rampant Canadian teams at the World Junior Championships in Tallinn yesterday.

Aitken had won four of her first five round robin matches, but the 21-year-old was outplayed by defending champion Kelsey Rocque, who scored her sixth straight victory with a 9-2 triumph. “We got the luck when we needed it,” said Rocque. “Scotland are a great team and we expect to see them again in the medal play-offs.”

It was a similar story for Mouat against Braden Calvert as the Canadian skip won 10-4. Mouat is still well-placed, though, after only his second defeat in seven games.
