Edinburgh curlers Kerry Barr and Colin Campbell qualified for the medal play-offs at the Scottish Championship Finals in Perth last night, but Gina Aitken was eliminated and John Hamilton’s fate will be decided today.
Barr booked her place in the knockout stages with two single-stone wins over Gail Munro (7-6) and Jenny Marshall (8-7), the latter after trailing 7-5.
Aitken required a fifth straight win over junior rival Jenny Martin to keep her hopes alive, but Martin fought back from 6-4 down to end Aitken’s challenge and clinch her own top three spot with an 8-6 victory.
Campbell and his team joined Logan Gray and the unbeaten Ewan MacDonald in the men’s play-offs following back-to-back victories yesterday over Grant Hardie (4-1) and club-mate Hamilton (5-3), leaving Hamilton vying for the one remaining qualifying berth. Beating Gray this afternoon could be enough depending on other results, but it will definitely get him into a tie-breaker at worst.
