Edinburgh squash player Doug Kempsell looked on the bright side as he and Kevin Moran finished ninth at the World Doubles Championships in Darwin, Australia.
The No.10 seeds bounced back from four Group B defeats with a hard-fought 10-11, 11-9, 11-9 victory over Malaysia’s Sanjay Chal and Ivan Yuen in yesterday’s play-off match.
“We were seeded tenth but finished ninth, so it’s not too bad,” said Kempsell. “We had hoped for better, but it was a good learning experience for us.”
Meanwhile, Scottish champions Alan Clyne and Greg Lobban stormed through to today’s final after stunning Australian top seeds Cameron Pilley and Ryan Cuskelly 11-9, 7-11, 11-7. Australia’s Zac Alexander and 40-year-old David Palmer stand between the duo and the biggest title of their careers.
