Three Edinburgh students will attempt to follow in the tyre tracks of the likes of Dario Franchitti and Paul di Resta when they compete in the British Schools Karting Championship national finals at Whilton Mill, Northampton tomorrow.
Edinburgh College trio Michael Weddell, Michael Boyd and Ryan Smith beat off competition from 14 rival teams to qualify as Scottish champions when the regional finals were held at Knockhill, Fife.
Michael Weddell says: “We are proud to win the Scottish title as famous motor racing drivers including Dario Franchitti and Paul di Resta began their motor sports careers in karting.
“Being 18, this is our last chance to represent Scotland and our school in the BSKC, so we were determined to do our best. The race was incredibly close, and we went head-to-head with some of the most talented young Scottish karters, but we pulled together to ensure our tactics would secure us the winning position.”
