Fishing: Wonders in woeful weather

Have your say

It may have been cold wet and windy but the fishing was
superb at Bangour.

It was our club outing and our members made for their usual hotspots around the dam wall. Despite constant heavy downpours it did not deter the fish. I made for the bottom end of the fishery at the bridge and away from the rest of the guys who were having moderate success. Management were very honest with their reports and mentioned that area had not fished for a few weeks. I thought that it had to come on at some point and decided to give it a try.

Fishing the full floater and a long leader I went out with a hothead Damsel. Casting across the wind into the reed bed on the opposite bank I started on a slow figure of eight retrieve searching the depths. I was soon into a nice fish of around 4lb and it dived deep then leapt high into the air before I was able to guide it into the net. It was a cracking blue trout.

I took another three fish over 3lb to attain my limit on the same tactic. After weighing in I went on to catch and release where I was broken twice and returned my biggest fish of the day. Still the sport was superb despite horrendous weather and it was good to see and feel such fine looking quality fish. I promise to return again soon!
