Capital canoeist David Florence is in prime position to claim his first World Cup slalom title since 2009 as he goes into round three of this season’s championship at Liptovsky Mikulas in Slovakia tomorrow.

The Forth Canoe Club star, 32, tops the 2015 rankings in the C1 singles after finishing third in last month’s season-opener in Prague before taking second place in Krakow last week. European gold medallist Benjamin Savsek is level with Florence on 105 points with Krakow winner Matej Benus just a single point adrift and Prague champion Stanislav Jezek also in contention on 102 points with three races remaining.

Florence’s frustration this summer is that he and Rich Hounslow failed to reach the C2 doubles finals in Prague and Krakow after starting the season with a bronze medal at the European Championships in Leipzig in May.
