European Championships do not seem to agree with David Florence as the Edinburgh canoeist endured another frustrating weekend at the slalom Euros in Vienna.
The 31-year-old owns two Olympic silver medals and struck double gold at last September’s World Championships in Prague, but he has never managed to do himself justice at European level.
His latest disappointment began on Saturday as he failed to reach the C1 final, finishing 15th-quickest in the semis with only the top ten going through.
Yesterday began more promisingly when Florence and Rich Hounslow went second-fastest in the C2 semis, but two clipped gates in the final resulted in four seconds of penalties, leaving them in seventh place.
Florence said: “I had some good runs but sadly no podium in the end. I’m looking forward to racing again at the World Cups in London, Ljubljana and Prague.”
