Edinburgh canoeist David Florence won his Olympic rematch with Aberdeen’s Tim Baillie at the slalom World Cup in Cardiff yesterday, but Florence still had to settle for silver behind Slovakian twins Pavol and Peter Hochschorner, writes LORIN McDougall.
Florence and Rich Hounslow scraped through Saturday’s C2 heats in 15th place but went third-quickest in the semis before producing a clean run in yesterday’s final.
Olympic champions Baillie and Etienne Stott fell just short in fourth place.
“It was great to be up there on the medal podium with Rich at our first World Cup race since the Olympics,” said Florence who also finished fifth in Saturday’s C1 final. He later claimed a second silver medal in yesterday’s C2 team event.
