GRANGE moved into top spot in hockey’s Division One with a 2-1 victory over Edinburgh University at Peffermill.

Todd Mills edged Grange ahead and Joe Waterston made it 2-0 before the break.

Michael Johnson pulled one back after good build-up play involving Ian Moodie but the students could not find the leveller.

Grange now have 40 points from 15 games and are one point ahead of long-time leaders Bromac Kelburne, who have played the same number of fixtures.

The West of Scotland club, who are the defending champions, suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at home to improved Uddingston Deans Eng.

Meanwhile, Watsonians, who edged Edinburgh University 2-1 at Peffermill on Friday, could not make it a maximum points weekend.

They were thrashed 6-0 at home to Western Wildcats in a game coach Mike Leonard had described as “massive” for the club in their bid to say in the top flight.

Watsonians are sixth with 17 points from 15 games while injury-hit Edinburgh University have slipped to seventh and into the drop zone with 15 points from the same number of games.
