American football teams Edinburgh Napier Knights and Edinburgh University Predators will do battle in their own Edinburgh derby this weekend.

They clash in the 2016 Varsity Trophy match at Meggetland on Sunday in a match preceded by a programme of family entertainment. Organisers hope the game – which kicks off just hours ahead of Super Bowl 50 between the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers – will pull in a crowd of more than 1500 for the first time.

This year’s fixture has added significance for both teams as they chase a place in the play-offs of the British Universities & Colleges Sport league in which they compete.

There will be entertainment at Meggetland from a swing band, DJ, cheerleaders, face painters, a medieval knights display and a ‘Come and Try’ session for youngsters.

Gates open at 1pm ahead of a 2.30pm kick off. Entry is free for under 16s, £4 for adults and £2 for students.
