John Hannah, 16, from Edinburgh Sports Club and Murrayfield is the new Capital table tennis champion after victory in the weekend event at Penicuik Sports Centre.

The Stewart’s Melville pupil claimed the Mike McLaren Quaich after defeating defending champion Stan Stoodley (Murrayfield) and then dominating the final versus Brian Hunter (West Lothian), winning 3-0.

John also claimed the under-18 title after beating Abby Wighton (Penicuik) in the final.

A total of 61 players took part in the tournament and 183 matches were played.
