Edinburgh judoka Sally Conway ended a year of mixed fortunes on a high by winning the British Under-70kg title at the English Institute in Sheffield.
The world No. 6, seventh at the prestigious Tokyo Grand Slam the previous weekend, was favourite for the title but there was danger from Megan Fletcher, England’s Commonwealth champion.
Fletcher ended Conway’s hope of a gold medal in Glasgow when she gained the upper hand in their semi-final clash, but this time the Scot came out on top in the final.
Club-mate Sarah Adlington added gold in the Over-78kg event – Scotland’s only other title in the senior event – when she beat fellow Scot Ashley Fleming.
There was a bronze medal for Penicuik’s Jodie Mullen in the Under-63kg event and Commonwealth Under-52kg champion Louise Renicks also had to be content with bronze in her weight category. Edinburgh-based Andy Burns won bronze in the men’s Under-90kg event and Commonwealth medallist Connie Ramsay took bronze in the women’s Under-57kg.
