Edinburgh’s Sally Conway suffered disappointment in her quest for a European judo medal when she lost out in the quarter-finals of the Under-70kg event at the European Championships in Montpellier, France.

The world No.9, who has never won a European medal, went down by just a single yuko to France’s Fanny Posvite.

It was a repeat of the defeat Conway suffered to the Frenchwoman at the recent Paris Grand Slam.

Conway started positively when she beat Russian Irina Gazieva by waza-ari and two yukos to reach the quarter-finals.

The defeat by Posvite meant Conway went into the repechage but she lost her first fight by a single shido to Croatian Barbara Matic, leaving her seventh overall.
