Kerry Barr’s world title dream is still alive after the Murrayfield curler performed superbly on the opening weekend of the Scottish Ladies’ Championship at Dumfries Ice Bowl.
The Edinburgh skip made an ideal start on Saturday, beating Lockerbie’s Hannah Fleming 8-4 to hand the former world junior champion her only defeat so far. Barr followed that by overcoming her young club-mate Gina Aitken 8-3 before continuing yesterday with an 8-6 victory over Kilmarnock junior Jenny Martin.
She then suffered a surprise 8-7 loss to Stranraer veteran Gail Munro, but Barr remains well placed with a 3-1 overall record going into the concluding part of the championship in February. The winners will represent Scotland at the World Championships in Canada in March.
Aitken already looks out of contention, though, after losing three out of four in Dumfries. She pipped Munro 6-5 on Saturday but was beaten 8-6 by Jennifer Marshall yesterday.
