Scotland women’s volleyball team face four matches in 48 hours in Perth this weekend as they strive to reach next year’s finals of the European Championships Small Countries Division.
Captained by City of Edinburgh’s Jen Thom, the Scots face Malta tonight, Northern Ireland and Ireland tomorrow and finish off against favourites Cyprus on Sunday.
A place in the top two would be enough but Lynne Beattie, who captained the Great Britain team at London 2012, is aiming to come out on top.
Scotland have never beaten Cyprus but have not only have Beattie’s talents in their line-up but also those of Olympic team-mate Jo Morgan from East Lothian.
“I believe 100 per cent that we have the ability and the experience to beat Cyprus for the first time,” Beattie said. “We came close last year and this year we are a stronger team with a strong team spirit and desire to win. It will be amazing to compete in front of a home crowd again for the first time since London.”
