Musselburgh’s Marisa Alongi is the new European formula three water ski champion.
And the teenager’s points haul in Vichy and Eguzon, France, contributed to Great Britain winning the team championship.
Marisa normally competes in formula two but team requirements meant entering the water behind a 150hp engine mounted on a 19ft boat.
Marisa rose to the occasion in a competition that attracted more then 200 competitors overall and spin-offs have been immediate.
Proud dad Alfredo, who regularly drives 18-year-old Marisa’s boat, says: “Helped by a spell of training in the USA earlier this year, Marisa has been invited back to compete on their circuit where she will be assisted by top team, Nordic Racing.
“This will be further preparation for a crack at the world championships in New Zealand in March.”
