New Currie rugby coach Ben Cairns is among a host of ex-internationalists taking part in a festival of seven-a-side sport at Meggetland from tonight until Sunday.
Cairns, who retired from playing with Edinburgh Rugby due to injury last season, has been brushing up on beach volleyball skills and will also be mentoring his Currie charges in a tournament featuring some top invitation sides.
A beach volleyball court has been laid out and the programme also features the Scottish dodgeball championship on a pitch with an inflatable surround.
Gordon Hood, Edinburgh 7s Festival director, said: “We are also featuring touch, netball, hockey and football after the success of last year when over 3000 spectators turned out, many in fancy dress.
“As well as top-quality elite sport and competitions aimed at the public and teams representing businesses, there will be plenty of musical entertainment adding to the atmosphere along with Elite Pro Dance cheerleaders.
“Come-and-try sessions for each sport will hopefully increase participation, with under-12s admitted free, including to a kids zone.”
Other familiar rugby names signed up include Simon Taylor, Cameron Mather, Sean Lineen, Derek Stark, Stuart Moffat and Alex Blair.
