Edinburgh canoeist David Florence and Rich Hounslow missed a gate which cost them victory in the C2 doubles final at the slalom World Cup.
Florence, 31, finished second in Saturday’s C1 singles final behind Slovak legend Michal Martikan. But the Scot and Hounslow were less convincing in the C2 competition after going only 17th-quickest in Friday’s heats and seventh-fastest in yesterday’s semis. It very nearly came together in the final as their time of 102.13secs was good enough to win, but a missed gate cost them 50 seconds in penalties and relegated them to ninth place.
Florence still has high hopes of lifting his second World Cup C1 title as he trails Martikan by just 14 points going into the next race at La Seu d’Urgell in Spain in early-August.
