Capital curler Bruce Mouat overshadowed world champions David Murdoch and Niklas Edin as he reached the semi-finals of the Gatineau Challenge in Quebec last night.

Murdoch and Edin both fell by the wayside before yesterday’s quarter-finals, but Mouat made his mark in the senior ranks after his world junior bronze last winter, winning five straight matches to book his last eight spot.

He then repeated Saturday’s victory over Toronto’s John Epping, going through 5-4 before losing 6-3 in the semis to the world’s in-form player, Brad Gushue. The Newfoundland skip has already won three tournaments this season and was always in control after going 3-0 up at the opening end, but the young Scot can be proud of himself after coming of age as a world-class curler.
