Rising local darts star Willie Borland underlined his promise with a stunning nine-darter.

The 18-year-old, who plays in the Murrayfield Sports Bar’s Premier League of Darts, produced the perfect leg at the Plough Inn, Tranent, en route to claiming the £200 first prize in last weekend’s competition.

His success continued his recent impressive form on the oche, with the teenager leading his group in the Premier League and also sitting proudly on top of the 180s’ chart with nine maximums to his name so far.

“It was a dream come true as it was my first one,” said Borland. “I have watched the pros on the television hitting nine-darters and always said to myself: ‘that could be me one day’.

“I was quite nervous after hitting the six treble 20s but once I got the seventh I was feeling confident as I had been hitting the 19s well. It was a brilliant feeling to hit the double 12 to finish it off!”

On the same day, there was good showing from another local player, Stuart Ironside, who was just pipped for glory in Ayrshire. Stuart battled his way through a quality field in Kilwinning only to find PDC player Mark Barilli too strong in the final.
