Edinburgh canoeist David Florence qualified in style for this summer’s World and European Championships following a dominant series of performances at yesterday’s final British Selection Trials at Lee Valley’s London 2012 course.
The double Olympic silver medallist won Saturday’s C1 slalom heat by over two seconds and topped that yesterday by finishing almost six seconds clear in the semi-finals. Florence then clocked 110.52secs in the final to beat runner-up Tom Quinn by over four seconds despite clipping a gate.
The Forth Canoe Club star and Rich Hounslow had already been pre-selected in the C2 doubles following their Olympic silver last August.
“I’m looking forward to the international season now,” smiled Florence after making the British team for the 13th straight year.
