SCOTLAND’S women were held to a 1-1 draw in the second international with Ireland at Glasgow National Hockey Centre.

Coach Gordon Shepherd’s charges were slow out of the blocks yesterday, despite triumphing 3-1 against their Irish counterparts on Friday evening, with the visiting side dominating proceedings in the first half.

Scotland came out firing after the interval and Edinburgh University star Sarah Robertson had the ball in the net after 60 minutes, only for the goal to be chalked off for dangerous play in the build up.

The Scots kept pushing for the opener and were rewarded when rampant Nikki Kidd fired home from a penalty corner into the bottom left corner three minutes from time, leaving the Irish goalkeeper stranded.

But the drama wasn’t over. Slack defending in the final seconds gifted Ireland a penalty corner and Emily Beatty broke Scottish hearts with a well taken goal on the rebound after Amy Gibson in the Scottish goal made the initial save.

Scotland play Spain this weekend in a three match series in their final preparations for Glasgow 2014.
