EDINBURGH squash player Doug Kempsell has a new nickname – “Legs of Steel” – after overcoming exhaustion to claim his second PSA Tour title at the Shepparton International in Melbourne yesterday.

The number five seed took 94 minutes to win his quarter-final on Friday, and then needed 149 minutes to beat fourth-seed Josh Larkin 13-11 in the deciding game in Saturday’s semi-final.

And although Kempsell was running on empty going into yesterday’s final, the 22-year-old somehow conjured up a superb performance and crushed unseeded Englishman Josh Masters 11-7, 11-8, 11-5 in barely half an hour to add more silverware to his Geneva Open victory in March.
