Edinburgh sportsman Dougie Kempsell climbed 24 places to a career-high No.129 in yesterday’s new world squash rankings following an incident-packed but successful September.

The 20-year-old began the month by reaching the New South Wales Open semi-finals in Sydney but was then hampered by illness when he lost to Scottish top-ranked player Alan Clyne in the first round of the New Zealand International Classic.

Kempsell recovered to make another semi-final appearance at the Christchurch Open although a knee injury scuppered his chances against New Zealander Paul Coll.
