It was a case of déjà vu for Craig Howieson at the Scottish National Table Tennis Championships in Perth.

The Edinburgh player could not prevent Gavin Rumgay winning the title for a tenth time, losing 4-2 in the final for the second successive year.

Howieson, the 2011 champion, has only beaten his rival once – in the final of last year’s West of Scotland Grand Prix.

Rumgay is now homing in on Euan Walker’s record of 12 singles titles.

“I just gave too much away too early,” Howieson reasoned but went on to partner Rumgay to the men’s doubles title for the seventh successive year.

Gillian Edwards retained her women’s singles title with a 4-2 win over Lynda Flaws.
