Scotland lost 3-0 to the Netherlands in the semi-finals of the Standard Division at the European Table Tennis Championships in Ekaterinburg, Russia.

Edinburgh’s Craig Howieson lost 8-11, 5-11, 5-11 to Rajko Gommers, Chris Wheeler went down 15-17, 5-11, 6-11 to Ewout Oostwooder and Sean Doherty was beaten 5-11, 4-11, 3-11 by Laurens Tromer.

Doherty was a late replacement for No.1 Gavin Rumgay.

Scotland beat Malta 3-1 and lost 3-1 to Moldova before a 3-0 walkover against Kosovo in their group.

They then beat Azerbaijan 3-0 with Howieson beating Hilal Hasamov 11-9, 11-6, 11-8, Wheeler beating Khayal Hashimli 12-10, 11-9 11-8 and Doherty defeating Jafar Jafarzade. 11-7, 11-9, 11-9 – to set up the clash with the Dutch.
