Capital contenders Michael Fairburn, Neil Harden and Gary Melville all progressed into the second round of the men’s singles at the Homecoming East Lothian tennis championships at North Berwick.
However, former finalist Melville was pushed to a third set by St Serfs club-mate, Euan Ballantine. Fairbairn, from Blackhall, was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Nick Stemp while St Serfs’ Harden was an even more comfortable winner in failing to drop a game against Barnton Park’s Dugald Barclay.
Also through is former finalist Lloyd Greatorex-Watson.
In the men’s doubles Fraser Stirling and Gary Melville, the second seeds, enjoyed a straightforward opening win.
