Scottish volleyball’s junior women’s team gained the best result on international soil for the sport when they captured the silver medal at the European “C” Championship finals in Limassol, Cyprus.

With City of Edinburgh players Naomi Symonds, Sophie Hunter, Gemma Ramsay, Katie Sampson and Becky Arthur in the squad, the Scots won two out of three matches. They were also the only team to take a set off eventual winners Cyprus then produced outstanding victories over Luxembourg and Liechtenstein.

The Scots handed defending champions Luxembourg a stunning defeat by coming back from two sets down to win 15-25, 18-25, 25-20, 25-23, 16-14.

They then beat Liechtenstein 25-22, 23-25, 25-20, 25-17 in their final match and had to await the tournament’s closing match between Cyprus and Luxembourg. Cyprus sealed victory, thereby confirming the silver medal for Scotland.
