Volleyball: City keep hold of Celtic Cup

Scottish women’s volleyball champions City of Edinburgh added another piece of silverware to their season by retaining the Celtic Cup at Wishaw Sports Centre.

Edinburgh took command against the University of Ulster Jordanstown from the start and easily came through 25-7, 25-19, 25-15 with setter Natalia Durkaca winning the Most Valuable Player award.

Kilmarnock Blaze won the men’s trophy after beating Richhill Raiders 23-25, 25-14, 25-23, 25-17.

In a good weekend for the Capital, former City of Edinburgh player Shauna Mullin and English partner Zara Dampney steered Great Britain to the gold medal at the CEV Confederation Beach Cup in Paris as they battled back to beat Spain 3-2.

In Crawley, Great Britain men’s team comfortably qualified for the second round group stages of the European Championships as they beat Albanian 25-17, 25-17, 25-22 in their first round, second leg match. It put them through 6-0 on aggregate on sets.
