City of Edinburgh will find out tomorrow if Su Ragazzi are the real deal in the women’s Schelde Sports Scottish Volleyball League.
The Glasgow club, who strengthened their squad during the summer, have enjoyed their best start to the season for four years. They caused a major upset last weekend by beating Troon Team Ayrshire in five sets and sit joint top with Edinburgh. But, even during matches, their form has fluctuated – they led 16-6 in the opening set against Troon only to lose the set.
Yet, in the next set, they trailed by eight points but hit back to win 25-21. Their form has fluctuated during matches, though, and so even they do not know what to expect when they take on the champions at Coltness High tomorrow.
A win will show they are a serious threat to Edinburgh’s bid to repeat their grand slam success last season. In the men’s first division, unbeaten City of Edinburgh face a tricky match at City of Glasgow Ragazzi who have also improved on last season. They lost a tight five-setter to Edinburgh Jets last weekend, however, and cannot afford another loss.
Jets visit winless South Ayrshire tomorrow no doubt confident they can maintain their unbeaten record.
