EDINBURGH JETS kept their 100 per cent record at the top of the men’s Schelde Sports Scottish Volleyball League, but had to dig deep to see off City of Glasgow Ragazzi.
Ragazzi, who were unbeaten until Saturday, took a tight opening set 25-23 and also led 2-1 on sets before Jets fought back to win 23-25, 25-19, 18-25, 25-21, 15-12. Jets led 9-4 in the fourth set and held off a fightback by Ragazzi to close out the set before going on to secure their status of only two unbeaten teams in the men’s top flight.
Champions City of Edinburgh also hold an unblemished record and they easily overcame South Ayrshire 25-20, 25-17, 25-12.
In the women’s First Division, City of Edinburgh saw off North Lanarkshire 25-15, 25-22, 25-19 to maintain their unbeaten run.
Su Ragazzi upset Troon Team Ayrshire 26-24, 24-26, 21-25, 25-21, 15-13 to suggest they can mount a serious title challenge. It was Troon’s first defeat, but they have the quality to ensure they are still involved when the silverware is handed out.
