NUVOC aim to spring a surprise and reach the last four of the women’s Scottish Volleyball Cup tomorrow.
The Edinburgh side, who lead the Division Two, travel to face Aberdonia who are lying second-bottom of Division One.
Aberdonia have only won twice in the league this season but have stretched Edinburgh Jets to five sets twice and have taken sets off City of Edinburgh and Troon Team Ayrshire.
NUVOC are also without setter Kat Kalamara, who injured her medial ligament last week. Jo Kawecka will take over the main setting duties. Coach Martyn Johnstone, who guided Edinburgh Jets to the men’s league and cup double last season, believes the quarter-final tie provides a major test for his players.
“This is our first major competitive match of the season and we’ll see if the team can compete with the Division One sides, which is within our aspirations for the season.
“The team have upped their training intensity this half of the season as they know they have to do more than everyone else to bridge the gap.
“They have been a pleasure to work with and their commitment has been exemplary.
“The team are excited but also very focused on what their job is this weekend.”
In the men’s Division One, City of Edinburgh take on Bon Accord, looking to add another three points to keep up their title challenge.
