Volleyball: Youngsters to get their chance for CoE

City of Edinburgh open the defence of their men’s John Syer Volleyball Trophy with a local derby against Edinburgh Jets at St Augustine’s High today.

In what is a transitional year for City, player-coach Danny Traylor will use the opportunity to give several of his juniors a chance.

Teenagers Craig Brown, Rhys Arthur, Euan Gibson, Jonny Black and Michael Lee have all been training with the senior squad this season but will be used sparingly throughout the campaign.

“This game will involve many of the juniors,” Traylor stated, “With results not being important this year and looking more towards development, this will be a great chance for the youngsters to get up to speed of the first division without the pressure of the league.”

Traylor has returned to the club this season after four years at Missouri Baptist University in St Louis, where his team finished third in the national championships last year.

In the women’s John Syer Trophy, Edinburgh Jets face a tough trip to Troon Team Ayrshire, runners-up in the competition last year.
