WATSONIANS open their Division One hockey campaign tomorrow (push off 3pm) when they entertain champions Kelburne and they are likely to include four new players.
Ally Vaughan has signed from near neighbours CALA Edinburgh with Blair Wynd and Jamie Brown switching from Dundee University, while goalkeeper Luke Campbell joins from Northern Irish combine Lisnagarvey.
The core of last season’s promotion team remains, though Magnus Ferrier has moved to Inverleith.
The club must play their matches at Peffermill as their hybrid pitch is deemed unsuitable for National League fixtures, but skipper Will Butler is determined to overcome that obstacle and keep the club among Scotland’s elite.
He said: “We know Kelburne will be difficult but it will help get us up to the speed we need to compete in Division One.
“Not many teams will take points off Kelburne so it is good to get the match in early.”
