Murrayfield’s Kerry Barr saw her growing momentum checked as she suffered a final-end defeat to China at the World Curling Championships in Canada early this morning.

The Edinburgh skip was targeting a hat-trick of round-robin wins in New Brunswick after following up two weekend losses with back-to-back victories over Germany and the Czech Republic.

Barr and her team were always behind against Liu Sijia’s Chinese rink but drew level with a two at the penultimate end, only for Liu to nick a single stone at the tenth to win 8-7.

The Scots had earlier beaten Czech Anna Kubeskova 6-4 last night. They face Russia’s former European champion Anna Sidorova in their next match later today.
