Motherwell manager Stuart McCall immediately shifted his focus towards Sunday’s trip to Hibs following his side’s 2-0 Europa League defeat by Kuban Krasnodar last night.
McCall was frustrated by the nature of the Russians’ second goal, which came on a 77th-minute counter-attack as the home side pushed for an equaliser.
Last-man Stevie Hammell’s pass was intercepted as Ivelin Popov netted his second goal of the half to put Kuban firmly in the driving seat in the third qualifying-round tie.
McCall claimed his side were still in the tie but their Scottish Premiership opener against Hibs is very much the priority given the scale of their task.
McCall said: “We weren’t as sharp or as strong as them. We won’t come up against the standard of players we came up against in the SPFL, there’s no doubt about that.
“All our focus is on going to Hibs on Sunday and getting a positive result.”
