Alan Solomons has told South African media he has a platform from which he can restore Edinburgh Rugby to former glories – even if the coach’s arithmetic might be called into question.
In an interview while home to coach a World XV, Solomons was asked about his first season at Edinburgh. He said: “I believe we have made a positive start to the job... enjoying our best finish in the RaboDirect Pro12 in four years.”
In fact, Edinburgh lost all of their last five fixtures for the first time in that period, although an eighth finish equalled the 2010-11 placing after drops to tenth and 11th, even if those predecessors garnered five more league points overall.
Meanwhile, international full back Stuart Hogg will be playing his domestic rugby in Scotland next season even though his whereabouts beyond the 2015 World Cup remain shrouded in doubt.
A source close to Hogg today insisted the player will see out a contract at Glasgow Warriors which has another year to run.
