Beaton the saviour for Broughton in East Two

Northern went into the home match unbeaten, but it was the visitors to Inverleith Park who got off to a flying start and built up a healthy lead by the interval.

However, Northern fought back and they were 24-18 up with just moments remaining. That was until Beaton managed to break through the defence and score under the posts for Broughton with Gavin Tainsh converting as they won 25-24.

Broughton’s other points in the win – which puts them seventh in the table – came from tries by Michael Whinn and Sandy Urquhart while Tainsh kicked another conversion and two penalties.

In the same division Penicuik’s good start continued with a third win on the spin.

This time they defeated Inverleith 36-0, David Zavaroni, Arran Thomas, Gav Stephen and Ali McCoormack the try scorers.

Trinity Accies are in third after they disposed of Langholm 22-8 at Bangholm while Liberton defeated Portobello 15-10 and Matthew Martin scored a try and Nick Tinlin kicked five points as Ross High won 10-0 at Leith.

In East One, North Berwick are still top after a 13-9 win at Murrayfield Wanderers, Murray West and Liam West with NB’s tries.

Forrester defeated Dalkeith 39-7, but Dunbar lost 33—17 to St Boswells.

In East Three, RDVC lost out 22-10 down at Gala YM to leave the Capital side fifth with two losses so far.
